NM DOH Violence in African American Barbershops Report

Excerpts from Report

In 2024, the New Mexico Department of Health launched a pilot project called The Culturally Tailored African American Barbershop Violence Intervention For Young Black Emerging Adult Men. The pilot program is a community-based initiative designed to address the pressing issue of violence among young Black emerging adult men by leveraging the cultural institution of African American barbershops as hubs for health promotion and violence prevention.

Single Space Strategies worked with Patrick Barrett and Dr. Finney D. Coleman to support the project team in implementing data collection and reporting for their pilot program at All Eyez On Me Barbershop over six biweekly sessions, generating a comprehensive report with accurate and compelling data that helped cement funding from the Department of Health for future projects.
